As 2022 draws to a close, we’re reflecting on all of the successes that the last year has brought the Novva team. Coming in on the heels of a groundbreaking second half of 2021, momentum from Novva’s grand opening continued and brought some significant milestones. Let’s take a closer look at some of the highlights from this year.

Diverse Fiber in Utah The year I started on an exciting foot with the release of a case study in partnership with Zayo highlighting the high bandwidth fiber connectivity included in the build-out of the Utah center. While implementation happened during construction in 2021, the case study released in January provided details on the project and how the partnership was able to bring a diverse four-fiber dark fiber ring to our flagship Utah data center, effectively connecting Novva to major aggregation hubs in the state and get with it the inventory needed to provide maximum scalability and flexibility to clients. The project also allowed Novva to build at scale and, as a result, practice wholesale colocation – “wholocation” – for those clients requiring 5, 10, and 15 megawatts within the same building and campus.

Greener Data: A Tribute To Earth Day It’s no secret that Novva has a passion and dedication for sustainability, so when CEO Wes Swenson was presented with the opportunity to celebrate Earth Day by co-authoring a book on the subject, it was an easy decision to say yes. “Greener Data: Actionable Insights from Industry Leaders” is a multi-author book with chapters focused on exploring the ideas and perspectives of other industry leaders looking to affect positive change in the industry regarding sustainability. Wes’ chapter – “It’s Not Easy Being Green” – explores how the famous PSA campaigns of the ’70s and ’80s ignited his passion for environmental sustainability and eventually led to his mission to build data centers with holistic sustainability at the forefront of operations. He also provides insight into what other facilities should consider, including site selection, alternative cooling methods, and everyday operational choices that can affect changes.

Continued Expansion Into The West After receiving an additional $355 million in capital investments from CIM Group, plans to expand the Novva footprint in the West moved full force ahead with adding a new center in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

With construction expected to be complete in 2023, the 275,000-square foot, 100MW center will sit on a 20-acre campus and be the third location for Novva. The new facility will also implement the same water-free cooling technology utilized in both centers. The addition of the North Las Vegas center is the latest on the list of strategic locations selected to deliver 1,000 MW of designed data center capacity by 2027. From innovative partnerships to a book launch, continued expansion, and more, 2022 was a groundbreaking first year for Novva and laid the foundation for an even more successful 2023 and beyond. Thanks to all our partners, customers, and supporters who made 2022 a success!
