Las Vegas FAQ's

What are the advantages of choosing Las Vegas for colocation services?

There are many advantages to choosing Las Vegas colocation services. Some of the most significant benefits include:

  • Centralized location: Las Vegas is a centralized location that serves both West Coast and national markets, with close proximity to Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Irvine, and San Diego.
  • Competitive costs: Las Vegas offers competitive pricing and tax incentives for colocation services.
  • Excellent network connectivity: The city’s infrastructure ensures excellent connectivity and a robust network of fiber optic connections, offering high-speed and reliable data transfer capabilities.
  • Booming data center industry: Las Vegas has 24 colocation facilities serving many businesses.
  • Lower electricity rates: The average cost of electricity is approximately 35% below the national average.

Novva’s Las Vegas data center offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, robust security features, and a highly scalable design that supports small and large enterprises.

How does the climate of Las Vegas affect data center operations?

While the arid climate of Las Vegas can pose potential challenges for data center cooling, Novva’s advanced water-free cooling technology capitalizes on the area’s low humidity to provide highly efficient and environmentally friendly cooling. Unlike other data centers that can use millions of gallons of water daily, our waterless Las Vegas data center cooling system is much more efficient and environmentally sustainable than traditional data center cooling. Once the server temperature starts to rise, Novva utilizes ambient desert air to cool the air in the data center hall. During warmer months, when outside temperatures are high, refrigeration is used to help pull temperatures down in our closed-loop chiller. This state-of-the-art facility is built with sustainability in mind, using renewable energy and replicating Novva’s signature “wholocation” experience.

What is the current growth rate of data center capacity in the Las Vegas/Reno area?

Driven by factors such as increased demand for cloud services, the Las Vegas/Reno area has experienced significant growth in increased demand, with Las Vegas data center power capacity projected to grow by 953%. This increases the region’s data center electricity needs to a level that could potentially require 3,812 MW of energy, which is enough to power about 3.1 million homes. The significant demand from sectors such as entertainment, cloud computing, fintech, and gaming is driving this extensive growth. Another key factor in this growth is the cost of electricity, which is 35% lower than the national average.

What role do tax incentives play in the growth of Las Vegas's data center industry?

Tax incentives play a pivotal role in the growth of Las Vegas’s data center industry. In 2019, the state of Nevada made tax abatements available to data centers and their clients. These appealing tax incentives, which include sales and use tax abatements, have been instrumental in attracting significant data center investments to the Las Vegas area. Such tax abatements are beneficial for local residents and businesses. Throughout the years, these tax incentives have been shown to be mutually beneficial in underscoring how tax incentives in Las Vegas attract major tech companies while supporting the local economy at the same time.
